Some Simple Ways To Help With Arthritis

Take a thimble of almond oil and mix it with 3 drops of Juniper oil: this is a really good aromatherapy oil to control pain and loosen joints. Although juniper is an excellent essential oil for many ailments it is suggested not to use during pregnancy due to it is known to induce labour.

There is nothing like eating oily fish three times a week, to help with the pain of arthritis (particularly osteoarthritis). But please see your doctor before you start this, if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition. The main oily fish are Salmon, trout, mackerel, herring and sardines.

Not all remedies for arthritis work for all types. You need to get an accurate diagnosis of what type you have and armed with that you can get remedies that work specifically for you. Go and have a check up to find out what type of arthritis you have. Arthritis ('arth' meaning joint, 'itis' meaning inflammation) isn't a one-note story or even a few variations on a single theme; it actually consists of more than 100 different conditions. Most common forms are: Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Avoid artificial sweeteners like saccharine and aspartame or sugar 'alternatives' as these seem to contribute to the problems associated with arthritis. Consider using natural whole foods and vegetables instead. The juice from a ripe apple is very sweet but you might not want to put that in your tea: so why not try: Barley Malt Syrup, Blackstrap Molasses, Brown Rice Syrup ,Date Sugar, honey and Maple Syrup, to name just a few.

Go on a diet to loose weight because your joints are made to carry a certain ' load ' only, and like a car...the springs can brake or have too much of a load. Keep moving.

Making sure that you eat the right food can go a long way to helping Rheumatism or rheumatoid arthritis pains. Add foods to your diet like raw vegetables, garlic, yoghurt and coconut oil to your diet. A good helping of curry could relieve your pain.

That's because turmeric, a spice used in curry, contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory that works similarly to Cox-2 inhibitors, drugs that reduce the Cox-2 enzyme that causes the pain and swelling of arthritis.

As people get older more and more of us are get some form of arthritis, but all the doctors and medical experts agree that no matter which form of arthritis you have, exercise can help you lead a happier, more productive and pain-free life.

Do not attributed your achy joints to your age as even children can get arthritis.

If your leg muscles ache, one of the exercises you can try it to 'push over a wall'. Arms straight out in front of you, facing a wall, you lean forward one leg in front of the other. Stretch your back leg by pushing the heal down towards the floor while trying to keep the knee joint straight. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds and switch legs.

A mobility device such as a wheelchair or mobility scooter can enrich your life immeasurably if you suffer from a condition that makes getting around difficult. But buying the right equipment for you from the right place is of vital importance.

The wheelchair is the traditional device for those with mobility problems. They are available as manual or powered wheelchairs. Manual devices are suitable for those with the good upper body strength needed to propel the device.

Power wheelchairs are ideal for these who lack this upper body strength. Powered by batteries, they're steered with a joystick. However a power wheel chair is not suitable for someone suffering from poor visual perception or coordination.

Mobility scooters blend the functionality of the wheelchair with the form of a scooter. They're steered with a handlebar. Like power chairs, they're suitable for people lacking the stamina or arm/shoulder flexibility needed to use a manual wheelchair. Compared to wheelchairs, they offer fewer medical support options. So they're not suitable for those with problems supporting their heads or bodies.

You and your Mobility Scooter...

1. Will you be using your mobility scooter indoors or outdoors?
If you are going to be using your scooter inside consider a smaller compact scooter which has a small turning cricle and is easy to maneuver. If you will be travelling outdoors, you will need a more larger more sturdy scooter that can handle rough ground and uneven pavements easily. Stability, speed and range are important considerations.

2. Will you be using your mobility scooter on curbs or steep hills?
If you will be using your scooter to climb curbs or steep hills, you may need a scooter with larger batteries and more power. A large 4 wheeled scooter has the power to handle such obstacles.

3. Will you be driving your mobility scooter on roads?
If you are likely to be driving your mobility scooter on roads as well as pavements, you scooter will have to travel 8 MPH and be equipped with lights.

4. Consider any restrictions at home.
Consider the width of your front gate or door and any steps you need to negotiate. If storage space is an issue then a small mobility scooter will be best suited.

5. Make sure your mobility scooter is comfortable?
Consider how much leg room you need and how much support you require. A swiveling captain seat will make getting on and off easier.

6. Does your mobility scooter need to be transportable?
Boot Scooter are easily transportable and designed for convenient travel. Some boot scooters can fold down or dismantal to fit into the boot of a car, and can be assembled and disassembled without tools.

Do I need road tax for my mobility scooter?

If you have a scooter which is not capable of more than 4 mph you do not need to hold any "road tax". However, if your scooter is capable of more than 4mph, you are obliged to apply for a tax disc from ther DVLA. The disc is free of charge and it is essentially a registering process for your machine.

Generally speaking mobility scooters can be driven (with care!) on public pathways and pavements and the larger scooters, the ones that go at 8 miles per hour, are legally allowed on the roads. However, experience has taught us that driving your scooter on public roads should be avoided wherever possible.

Do remember though that there are some obligations and restrictions as to where you can you use your mobility scooter.

Class 2 Scooters

Class 2 pavement scooters can legally travel up to 6.4kph (4mph) on pavements and are allowed on the road to cross from one to the other. Basically this allows you to drive anywhere you are permitted to travel on foot. The Class 2 category includes any 4 mph mobility and travel scooters.

Class 3 Scooters

Class 3 road scooters tend to be larger, than those found in Class 2, and can be driven on the roads where they can travel up to a speed of 12.8kph (8mph). Most class 3-mobility scooters have two speed settings, usually changed by a switch so it is usually possible to drive at 6.4 kph (4mph) and switch to 12.8kph (8mph).

Remember - 6.4kph (4mph) maximum speed is permitted on the pavement or footpath. 12.8kph (8mph) maximum speed is permitted only on the road. Not for use on the pavement or footpath.

You do not require a driving license to use a Class 3 vehicle but you should obey the Highway Code at all times, including complying with relevant eyesight requirements and not driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs etc.

Class 3 vehicles are not allowed on motorways, bicycle tracks or bus/cycle lanes. Although legally allowed on dual carriageways, with a compliant size, flashing beacon - this is not recommended.

The law requires all class 3 vehicles to be fitted with: lights, indicators, horn, rear view mirror, rear reflectors and a manual handbrake. A flashing beacon can be used when driving on the road to warn other road users of their presence, and must be used if driving on a dual carriageway.

Can I get my mobility scooter into a car?

Most transportable mobility scooter models have been designed so they can fit easily into most cars by either folding down or dismantling it into easily manageable pieces that are stowed in the boot or on the back seat.

You are also able to take apart some of the larger mobility scooter models, however, because of their size the component parts will be heavier to lift. Although larger scooters are more comfortable to use - they are less easy to transport.

If you have a people carrier or an estate car you may be able to get your scooter in using ramps. Although, this is fairly straightforward it is important that you select the right scooter and ramp combination.

If you dont mind fitting your car with a hook and a pulley lifting system, you have the option of being able to hoist a mobility scooter into your car. Again it is important that you make sure that the car and scooter are compatible with a hoist system.
